Corps Campgrounds

Seven U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds surround Lake Strom Thurmond.  Amenities and views vary, but these campgrounds range from some of the nicest on the lake to some of the most remote.  All of these campgrounds require a fee for overnight camping.

Petersburg Campground

Petersburg campground is one of the best campgrounds on the lake.  This site has amazing view of the lake and most campsites are right on the water’s edge.  This is our favorite place to camp on the lake. Located near the Thurmond Dam and Visitor Center.  There are two beautiful swim beaches within the campground.

Big Hart Campground

Big Hart campground is a very nice campground on the western side of the Lake Strom Thurmond.  This good sized campground has 31 family style campsites and beautiful views of the lake.

Lake Strom ThurmondWinfield Campground

Winfield campground is a very nice campground located on the west side of Lake Strom Thurmond near Mistletoe State Park.  This campground is home to 80 campsites many of which are along the water.  This park is open seasonally from March through September.

Ridge Road Campground

Ridge Road campground is a fun campground on the Georgia side of the lake that offers 63 campsites with water and electric hookups and six campsites for primitive camping.  Located on a peninsula overlooking the lake, you will be cooled by the breeze coming off the lake and the many shade trees that cover the park.

Modoc Campground

Modoc campground is a great campground on the South Carolina side of the lake.  Modoc is open seasonally from March 30th to September 29th.  There are 70 standard campsites in the Modoc campground.

Hawe Creek Campground

Hawe Creek Campground is a beautiful, remote campground located on the South Carolina side of Lake Strom Thurmond.  If you are looking for peace and serenity, this campground is for you.  This campground is open seasonally.  There are 34 campsites available for tent or RV camping.

Bussey Point Campground

Bussey Point campground is the most remote of the campgrounds on Lake Strom Thurmond.  You must travel down some dirt roads to reach the campground.  If you like remote camping, this campsite is for you.

These US Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds offer a wonderful alternative to the state parks that are located around the lake.  In fact, a few of these are among the best parks on the lake.  Get out and enjoy Lake Strom Thurmond.
